Education

Music Room

With major government investment in developing and refurbishing school buildings, the education sector is an important and growing one. Many doors in school buildings will of course need to provide smoke and fire containment - but Building Bulletin 93 also highlights the need for good acoustic conditions in schools, and this affects doors as well. Specific acoustic performance ratings for door assemblies are stated - please note, these are minimum requirements:

Given that many doors will be used by young children, they will also need to be easy to operate, and provide some important safety features too. And given the heavy use many doors will receive, both the doors themselves and any seals installed will have to be extremely durable, to ensure they continue to provide all these important benefits for years to come.

To meet all the requirements efficiently and cost-effectively, an integrated approach in essential - and the Lorient sealing systems recommended in this section have been designed with all this in mind.

Please do feel free to call our Technical Helpline if you would like any further details, or would like to discuss your specific application in more depth.

We would always advise you to check the fire door manufacturer's test evidence to ensure the correct sizes of fireseals are used.

Don't forget our range of intumescent dampers/air transfer grilles too - suitable for door, wall, duct, floor and ceiling applications.

These solutions are suitable for non-fire rated doors, required to also provide an acoustic performance of at least 30dB Rw. Please note, to achieve acoustic performance on any door assembly, it is always essential to seal the threshold. (You may find our FAQ on threshold sealing helpful.)
