Celebrating 30 Years

30th anniversary

We’re proud to be celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2009.

From the very first combined fire and smoke seals, launched in 1979, to our latest products such as the DS seal - our principles have remained the same: innovate, lead, partner, inform and excel.

Our 30th anniversary “pearl” campaign and brochure picks up on all these things.

So why the pearl? Firstly, it's a symbol of 30 years (as silver is for 25 years, and gold for 50). But the pearl is also a symbol of something elite and special, nurtured over time - and with value that endures.

Sustain Ability
Without a doubt, sustainability is one of the key issues of the moment in the construction industry. Of course, energy performance, thermal containment and environmental concerns are important aspects to consider. But actually, so is product durability. Buildings should be made to last, so the products which go into them should be durable too. At Lorient we choose materials that will enhance the lifespan of our products. We then test our seals on a full-size door rig, opening and closing the door 1 million times to prove the seals will withstand the demands of everyday use without breaking down.

Getting the seal specification for a building right first time means there’s less chance of having to replace the seals in a few years – so there’s less wastage, and it’s actually cheaper in the long-run. And many of our seals are multi-functional – so one sealing system will incorporate acoustic, smoke, fire and thermal containment, as well as accommodating accessibility needs. That means fewer products to install in the first place, so less materials are used in manufacture and in the building itself.

But sustainability runs deeper than just environmental issues, into the heart of what matters to a company and how decisions are made. After 30 years in business, it’s a good time to reflect on how Lorient has been built – through choosing to do the right things. Our new corporate brochure explains more: download it from this page.

Nurturing Quality
One thing we’re well known for – and we know our customers value – is our product quality. It underpins every new innovation we devise. And we’re thorough in how we test our products too, because we know that lives and property depend on us getting it right. Our quality controls at Endeavour House are rigorous, and we also submit our products to every relevant accreditation standard that exists. We’ve held the ISO 9001 quality management accreditation for many years, and we recently achieved the new 2008 standard at our first attempt. A year ago, we gained ISO 14001 status for our environmental management – the first in the industry to do so. We’re still the only seal manufacturer to hold BBA approval. And we now have no less than eleven CERTIFIRE certificates, covering high performance seals, glazing systems and air transfer grilles. Find out more about how certification and quality have shaped Lorient over the last 30 years in our anniversary brochure.

Accept No Imitations
When you look more closely at what goes into a Lorient product, it becomes easier to see why we’ve become a respected name in the industry. Sometimes it’s the big things, like bespoke product design and, of course, extensive testing. Sometimes it’s the small details that make the difference – like sealing the ends of products to prevent moisture ingress. Because we’re the manufacturer, we have a depth of knowledge that can’t be beaten – and we have complete control too over our production (and a lot of flexibility in what we can do). Download our brochure to find out more.

Enduring Partnerships
By working in partnership with customers, we’ve been able to design and recommend products that meet their requirements, perfectly. Over the years, we’ve burned many hundreds of prototype doors in our furnace here - with our customers’ full knowledge of course! It’s all part of the development work that goes into bringing a new doorset to market. There are plenty of other ways that we work with customers too – download our brochure to read more.
